New School of Fish

This summer I have been packing in as much art and outside time as possible. The Arts on the 4th in Mammoth Lakes was a great time! I love being in the Eastern Sierra and understand why so many families have made a tradition of spending the 4th there. Thank you for coming and supporting the arts!

Below you’ll find the listings for my upcoming festivals, but first I’d like to introduce you to my new school of fish!

Each fish is created with special techniques like hand engraving, kiln fired painting and silver stain and unique fused glass pieces. Traditionally made mouthblown glass is used throughout all the pieces.

This collection was first instigated after conversations with a friend about her road trip from California to the Flathead River in Montana. She stopped at several beautiful rivers along the way in Oregon and Idaho to fish. It got me thinking back to when I worked as a fisheries observer onboard fishing boats on the coast of California. I handled all kinds of fish and got quite personal with many rockfish. Identifying them to species requires you to rub your fingers over their forehead to count and feel the arrangement of spines.

My stained glass school of fish are modeled after the mighty salmon, a fish that, like the bison of the west, used to blanket the oceans and rivers of the West coast. I was lucky enough to work on California’s stronghold river for salmon, the Smith River near the OR border, and see these regal creatures in an unadulterated habitat. I wanted to begin this fish collection with the salmon because of their cultural importance for West Coast indigenous people, their beauty, and their incredible life story of migration from river to sea and back, transitioning both their physiological body and their environment.

Occasionally viewers of my work will take one glance at a piece and ask:

“What is it?”

I invite you to forego this question, perhaps even when viewing all art. Instead just take in the colors, shapes, light and motion and instead of thinking at all, just feel. I hope you enjoy!

A note on Custom work:

My custom calendar is full for the remainder of 2026. Please let me know if you’d like to get on the calendar for 2027 as soon as possible. I do my custom work in winter and like to get it lined up early so I can focus all my summer time on festival work.

In the last newsletter I shared with you a kelp stained glass. Here it is installed in the the front door of a home in Santa Barbara.
