Ghost Kelp

$1,400.00

16”x22” Staines glass panel

Kelp beds have decreased in CA about 90% in the last 10 years. A chain of events from ocean temperature rising to a disease wiping out sunflower stars (which eat purple urchins- which eat kelp) crashed our kelp forests. Efforts are trying to rebuild the kelp and recover the sea star populations but we’re far from a healthy system. This piece is a reflection of the absence of the kelp, but its lingering ghost is waiting for the return! 10% of sales from this piece will go to support the Sunflower Star laboratory in Monterey.

Made with 100% mouthblown glass from Fremont Antique Glass in Seattle.
