16”x22” Staines glass paneL
Kelp beds have decreased in CA about 90% in the last 10 years. A chain of events from ocean temperature rising to a disease wiping out sunflower stars (which eat purple urchins- which eat kelp) crashed our kelp forests. Efforts are trying to rebuild the kelp and recover the sea star populations but we’re far from a healthy system. This piece is a reflection of the absence of the kelp, but its lingering ghost is waiting for the return! 10% of sales from this piece will go to support the Sunflower Star laboratory in Monterey, CA which works to restore the stars to the seafloor where they help balance the food web in support of kelp growth
Made with 100% mouthblown glass from Fremont Antique Glass in Seattle.
